The Green Boots

This is an assignment for my digital painting class working with impressionistic techniques at the Digital Art Academy. The assignment was to work with a photograph using complementary colors. This is a image of my grandson and daughter on the of the Oregon coast where they live. Usually children attach themselves to blankets, Teddy bears, toys, but for some strange reason my young grandson Aspen has attached himself to his green boots. He would wear them to sleep if his mother would let him. The complementary color to this green is somewhere in the purple range so I did try to include hints of that in the background. The photo was taking at sunset with the two subjects facing into the light so I didn't want to do more to saturate the skin tones because when I did it simply was too intense.
